South African Cannabis Extraction

The popular YouTube channel "South African Cannabis Extraction" has a primary focus on disseminating any and all information related to medical cannabis and extraction. 

It is run and maintained by Jeff Verlinden, one of SANCAP's committee members. To provide easier access to the great content Jeff produces, he has allowed us to display his videos and link to his channel on the SANCAP website. 
In this video we share highlights from Africa Health - Medlab Africa expo 2022. This expo is currently underway at the Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg from the 26th - 28th of October 2022. This event distributors from all around the world even featuring a hall focused on suppliers from different global regions. China, Australia, UK, USA, South Korea and Germany were highlighted in particular. To many Africa Health is considered the largest international platform for promoting the ever-growing African healthcare markets. This event shows products like hospital and clinic services, hospital requirements and accessories, medical equipment manufacturing services, medical equipment supplies, pharmaceutical, chemical and compounds, medicines, and an array of other core suppliers in the healthcare market. It is a critical event for all healthcare professionals and aims to bring industry professionals to a common forum.

Hemp in South Africa 2022
In this interview we have on Declan Burger from Sativius on to discuss compounding of medicines in South Africa. We discuss the differences between compounded medicine compared to registered medicine. We highlight Section 22C 1 b licence holders under SAHPRA compared with Section 22C 1 a , where this is regulated by the DG of the Department of Health. We highlight how compounding medicine allows for precision/personalized medicine and has massive potential to improve patient access. Cannabis Mass Action Gatherings - 17th Sep 2022
In this video we discuss the ruling recently made by the High Court of South Africa (Western Cape Division) as it relates to 'The Haze Club - THC' Case no: 2101/2021. Our guests are Andrew McPherson from Ward Brink and Paul-Michael Keichel from Cullinan and Associates to give us some context on the recent High Court ruling as well as the context related to the Constitutional Court ruling of 2018 (Prince 3). This discussion aims to create context regarding the recent decision on the 29th of August 2022, highlight some of the findings made, contextualizing what this means for cannabis access and private use in South Africa. A strong focus of the discussion tied back to the definition of privacy and a private space and the spirit of the Constitutional Court ruling. In this ruling reference is made to 'The legislation of dealing in cannabis concerns policy issues and fall within the realm of the legislature, and not the judiciary' as accurate as this is, how long are South African's required to wait for policy and legislative change to enable increase legal access and trade? This discussion also unpacks certain aspects related to the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act 140 of 1992 especially related to section 4(b) and 5(b). Cannabis Private Clubs - Legal Review
This recent video is a quick overview of the 1st day of the Bio Africa Convention 2022 hosted at the Durban ICC. This convention sees scientist from across Africa coming together to focus on healthcare and research solutions on the continent. In addition to several Universities attending we saw core support from DSI: Department of Science and Innovation, CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research), BioCiti and the Innovation Hub. Separations was in attendance featuring workflows for pharmaceutical production, bioprocessing, biotherapeutic production, biobanking, cell culture, cellular biology, chromatography, elemental analysis, laboratory automation, microbiology, microscopy, molecular biology, protein biochemistry, spectroscopy, synthesis and parallel chemistry, water analysis, etc. Conventions like Bio Africa continue to highlight the need for better collaboration between scientist, startups and established business to build the Bio Economy in Africa.
Overview of Bio Africa Convention 2022
In this video we have on Paul-Michael Keichel an attorney from Cullinan & Associates (links below) to discuss whether global governments should be enabling improved access to psychedelic substances. The reality is this is already underway in many territories around the world. We unpack the status of psychedelics currently in South Africa and what it currently means to be in possession of these compounds. We also highlight instances when the state and citizens (Monica Cromhout) have debated the right to reasonable access. We contrast access for specific medical indications but also more fundamentally as a constitutional right of self-determination. Additionally we take a closer look at jurisdictions like Oregon who have taken a very progressive stance on access to psychedelics. Canada and Portugal being additional countries of interest. Further we also cast a brief light on the activities of Albert Hofman, Timothy Leary, Ram Dass (Richard Alpert) and the Nixon administration regarding key moments in the history of policies related to legislation of psychedelics. Unpacking the legality of psychedelics in South Africa
In this video we host the passionate Cullen Taylor Clark from Aether apothecary in South Africa (details below). We go back to the start of fungi's fossil records and discuss its evolution over the years to the current time point. We highlight the lifecycle of mushrooms and also discuss the range of phytochemicals found in fungi and mushrooms. The medical applications for fungi are truly extensive. We cover the main functional mushrooms including Reishi, Lions Mane, Cordyceps, Chaga (more mycelium than mushroom). We discuss the industrial applications for fungi from terraforming to chocolate (theobromine) and penicillin production. Finally we explore the potential history of local IKS (indigenous knowledge systems) and its utilization of fungal and mushroom medicine. This was a very diverse discussion related to the world of fungi and its uses.
